Just like Reinhold Messner, many people who have seen these imposing mountains before, describe them as "the most beautiful mountains in the world".
The Dolomites developed 200 million years ago from the primordial ocean. Today, they reach over 3,000 metres high into the sky. The special composition of the rocks was defined by Déodat de Dolomieu(1750 – 1801). He gave the mountains their name. Since 27th of June 2009, the Dolomites are one of UNESCO's World Natural Heritage sites. Scenery for winter and summer sports that could not be any more impressive.
The highest mountain in the Dolomites is the Marmolada at 3,342 metres above sea level. Other popular mountain massifs are the Three Peaks in the Sesto Dolomites, the Sella Mountain Group, Cattinaccio, the Geisler Mountain Group and the Sassolungo. You can drive around the Dolomites in just one day. You can choose between the short or long round tour of the Dolomites.
